From the Desk of Natasha N. Hazlett, Esq.
Hi There!
I wanted to ask you a few quick questions...
Has making (or updating) an estate plan been on your to do list for a long time?
Did you recently move to Idaho from another state?
Do you think that you don't need an estate plan because you don't consider yourself "wealthy"?
Do you think that you don't need an Estate Plan because your family "gets along" and besides, "they can just figure it out when you're gone?"
If so, you're not alone. I've heard these things a million times!
The sad reality is, these are some of the very reasons why families wind up with a huge MESS after their loved one is gone. Over my 20+ year career as an Estate Planner, I've seen many a family legacy tarnished due to a simple failure to create a solid, comprehensive estate plan.
Now, you may be thinking....
"Natasha, I've got it covered-- I wrote my own will!" or "I got a form online, so I'm all set"
Yeah, I've heard that one too- many times from beneficiaries that hired me because their loved one went the DIY route and did it incorrectly, or the "form" didn't do what they thought it would...
Those families end up footing a hefty bill for me to clean up the mess that their loved one left behind because well- DIY has a LOT of pitfalls. I'll explain what kinds of pitfalls in my upcoming workshop!
Now maybe you've been putting off getting an Estate Plan because you've been to one of those Estate Planning dinner seminars where you get a free dinner in exchange for listening to a presentation about how you need a Living Trust-- but spending $7 to $10K on that kind of trust just isn't in your budget...
I'll give you one little important nugget before you even sign up for the workshop:
Contrary to popular belief most people in Idaho, don't even need a fancy 100+ page Living/Revocable Trust! In fact most people get sold on a Living Trust to avoid probate- and then mess things up after they leave the lawyer-- and ultimately end up paying for a probate on TOP of their expensive fancy schmancy Living Trust.
I'll explain it all when you come to my Estate Planning 101 Workshop!
Before I tell you about the Workshop I'm hosting this month, let me introduce myself...
I'm Natasha Hazlett, and I'm an attorney at Johnson May: a full service law firm serving individuals and businesses in Idaho.
For the past 20+ years, I've served as a trusted advisor to individuals, couples and families- strategizing with them on the simplest, most cost-effective way to fulfill their financial goals and legacy wishes.
In two decades as an estate planner, I've seen it all- from simple, quick estates to disastrous, costly family battles. That wealth of experience is what I bring to the individuals I work with.
Unfortunately, I cannot work with everyone. So, over a decade ago, I started hosting Estate Planning 101 Workshops to educate people in my community on:
(1) what Estate Planning is and who it's for;
(2) why it is needed; and
(3) how to get the right plan in place for your situation.
Each workshop is 2 hours in length, and it's extremely thorough-- far more than you would get in an initial consultation with an attorney!
I absolutely love sharing some of my "war stories"- because the reality is...
"You don't know what you don't know!"
I can fill in the gaps... we'll talk about the costly mistakes people have made in the past, so you don't have to fall into the same traps! Plus, I can almost guarantee that I'll have you laughing throughout the class!
By the end of the Estate Planning 101 workshop, you will be far more educated on how it all works, and things you need to be considering when creating your own Estate Plan. You'll feel much more empowered to make informed decisions when it comes to planning for your future and the future of those who matter most to you!
If that sounds good...
Here's a Taste of What We'll Cover...
- The Top 10 Mistakes Most Families Make When It Comes to Estate Planning (and how to avoid them!)
- Financial Powers of Attorney vs. Healthcare Powers of Attorney
- Living Wills & Advanced Directives
- Wills vs. Trusts
- Probate in Idaho (is it really as expensive & time consuming as they say?)
- Estate Planners vs. General Practitioners (Not all attorneys are the same)
- How much is all of this going to cost me?
I have hosted this workshop in Boise for 9 years- and it frequently had a waitlist... I'm thrilled to be bringing back my popular Estate Planning 101 Workshop!
